OPPO 5G CPE T1 Review

From the 5G network formally enters the consumer’s vision, the topic of 5G terminals has become the focus of the industry for a while. 5G has entered the first year of official commercial use this year, and 5G has also become an area where the communications industry focuses its efforts. In fact, not only the communications industry, terminal manufacturers are also pushing 5G. For example, the OPPO 5G CPE T1 mobile router we are going to talk about this time. What are the special features of it? Let’s view the review below.

Reduced Design, but not Simple

Whether it is a mobile phone with a long-term accumulation, or now involved in bracelets, watches, headset, or 5G CPE in our hands, excellent overall design has always been regarded as OPPO’s consistent tradition. The first impression of OPPO 5G CPE T1 is that it is compact. Sized 92*92*181 mm, which is only equivalent to the size of 4 cans of 330ml coke. The straight tube shape in the home does not take up space.

The outer shell of OPPO 5G CPE T1 is made of ABS + PC, and the top is a PC material plastic cover, which is relatively resistant to falling. At the junction of the fuselage and the top cover, OPPO has designed a heat dissipation outlet for the T1, as well as the bottom of the fuselage. This symmetrical heat dissipation design forms a chimney effect, the air inlet adopts the design of wind guide structure to improve the heat dissipation effect. The main board part increases the copper laying area and thermal silica to ensure even heat dissipation. This makes the device can run for a long time and the temperature is relatively stable.

On the front of the fuselage, there are 4 signal indicator lights. From top to bottom, namely 5G network, 4G network, Wi-Fi, and power supply, which represent the router’s network and power connection status of the CPE.

All ports are placed on the back of the T1 CPE. You can see that the power switch, WPS one-key connection button, USB port, 3 Gigabit cable ports and power jack are neatly distributed in a straight line. In this part, OPPO T1 actually hides two very powerful cool functions. One is that there are two additional antenna ports under the top “MAIN DIV” cover. By inserting an additional 5G antenna, the original 8 5G antenna arrays of the whole machine can be expanded to the scale of 10 antennas, which can further enhance the signal. The other is that the LAN1 Gigabit Ethernet port can also be used as WAN port for network access, which means it can work as a 5G CPE, or as a WiFi6 wireless router by connecting to a wired network.

At the bottom of the OPPO T1, there are hidden Reset hole and SIM card slot. It is worth mentioning that OPPO T1’s slot-in card slot is designed to prevent station – if you don’t insert the SIM card in the only correct direction, the SIM card will automatically pop out, which is quite user-friendly. In addition, the power key and WPS button are respectively made into convex and concave designs to realize blind operation.

The OPPO 5G CPE T1 is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 flagship chip which covers global mainstream frequency bands. The X55 modem adopts a 7nm process to achieve lower power consumption and smaller size. Compatible with 4G and 5G networks, 4G networks can be used normally even in areas without 5G network coverage. It supports NSA/SA dual-mode 5G and n1/n41/n78/n79 sub6Ghz bands. The supported 4G frequency bands are FDD-LTE B1/3/5/8/28 and TDD-LTE B34/38/39/40/41.
The Qualcomm QCA6391 Wi-Fi chip of T1 supports the latest Wi-Fi 6 protocol (802.11ax) and is backward compatible with other Wi-Fi protocols (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac). The Wi-Fi 6 protocol network improves the Internet experience of each device through Long OFDM, 1024QAM, BSS Coloring and other technologies.

It also supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual-band Wi-Fi, allowing devices that support 5GHz to prefer the 5GHz frequency band. When the terminal device supports dual-band simultaneous connection, rate superposition can be achievedand the theoretical Wi-Fi dual-band concurrent peak rate is as high as 1775Mbps. The theoretical peak rate of 2.4GHz Wi-Fi is 574Mbps, and the theoretical peak rate of 5GHz Wi-Fi is 1201Mbps. The measured rate is generally about 70% of the theoretical peak rate.

Reliable O-Reserve Smart Antenna

OPPO 5G CPE T1’s O-Reserve smart antenna algorithm scheme combines the advantages of “omnidirectional antenna” and “directional antenna”, which can ensure the omnidirectional reception of 5G signals in the Sub-6 GHz frequency band, and also ensure a high antenna in a specific direction. When the 5G smart antenna works, it will run 8 antennas in sequence in a very short time, and select 4 antennas with the strongest antenna gain to form 4×4 MIMO to establish communication with the base station.
T1 also adopts an anti-attenuation antenna stacking scheme and dual-polarized antennas to reduce signal interference. It is the first time that the antenna is directly connected to the Modem board without going through the main board to reduce signal loss. In this way, no matter where the T1 is placed, you can get the best 5G signal quality at the moment.

Simple and Easy-to-use WeBGUI Interface

Plug in the SIM card, connect to the power supply. We can easily enter the WebGUI interface of OPPO T1 according to the instructions at the bottom of the CPE. It can be seen that the interface is divided into five sections: “Home”, “Network Settings”, “WLAN Settings”, “Terminal Management”, and “System Settings”. Taking the home page as an example, the four functions of network structure, real-time rate, network switch, and signal quality testing are designed to be staggered in a card style. Moreover, it is clear that the OPPO designers had in mind the user’s scenario of managing the CPE WebGUI through a mobile browser, so the spacing between most of the controls that need to be clicked is widened to fully prevent misoperation.

The interface style of OPPO T1 looks more like the UI style that only horizontal touch screen devices like a tablet. The result is that even on the small screen of the mobile phone, we can easily set the network parameters of OPPO T1 without zooming in on the page. http://software.it168.com/a2020/0630/6239/000006239613.shtml

Speed Test

  • Network latency test
Network delay refers to the time it takes for each data to be transmitted through the network protocol in the network medium, that is, the time from when a message starts to enter the network to when it starts to leave the network. For network delay, the lower the PING value, the better. In general, 1~30ms means very fast, almost no delay is detected.

    Network latency (ms)
    2.4Ghz 5Ghz
    1st time 11.45 7.63
    2nd time 11.03 7.53
    3rd time 12.7 8.11
  • Notebook wired and wireless test
We use a certain brand laptop that supports Wi-Fi 6 to connect to OPPO 5G CPE T1 through wireless Wi-Fi. Then use the speed measurement software to record the results of the three network speed tests, as shown below.

     Speed for Notebook (Mbps)
    Wi-Fi Wired
    Download 1st 400 535
    Download 2nd 396 526
    Download 3rd 409 522
    Upload 1st 56 56
    Upload 2nd 56 57
    Upload 3rd 55 58

Thanks to the lower energy consumption of the wired connection, the speed of the notebook computer is significantly improved after the OPPO 5G CPE T1 is connected with the network cable. The download rate of the three speed tests has exceeded 500Mbps, which is much higher than the state of the wireless connection.

  • Speed with Mobile Phone
It can be seen that the download speed can reach up to 378Mbps, which is 4.2 times the peak value of the 4G network. Even using Wi-Fi in the 2.4GHz band, the upload speed can reach 54Mbps, which is 1.8 times the peak upload speed of the 4G network.

     Speed for Mobile Phone (Mbps)
    4G 2.4Ghz 5Ghz
    Download 1st 69 56 353
    Download 2nd 85 62 366
    Download 3rd 90 53 378
    Upload 1st 29 51 54
    Upload 2nd 27 51 62
    Upload 3rd 28 54 51

The electromagnetic wave in the 5GHz frequency band has stronger penetrating power than the 2.4GHz frequency band. However, the reflection and diffraction ability is not as good as the latter. When the electromagnetic waves of the two frequency bands hit obstacles, almost all of the energy of the 5GHz signal will be used for penetration, while the 2.4GHz signal will partially reflect and diffract and continue to propagate around the obstacle.
OPPO 5G CPE T1 supports 2.4GHz and 5Ghz at the same time, so you can switch flexibly according to your needs. For example, when office scenes are used in close proximity to mobile phones and other devices, the 5GHz frequency band can be enabled; the 2.4GHz frequency band can be enabled in scenarios such as gatherings and team building.
